carpetweed, Mollugo verticillata

Carpetweed is edible, which explains the rest of this. The other day I had a conversation with my grand daughter about the Indians she was studying in AP history. I thought I should come up with an example of a plant that was brought here by Indians. So here it is, coincidentally brought to you by my random selection system. This South American native came here 3000 years or so ago. Amazing what they can figure out from seeds at archeological digs, from the Andes to here. Now it pretty much just carpets your garden or any other open spot, almost anywhere in the world. It has been reported here from every state except AK, HI, and UT, and from BC, MB, NB, NS, ON, and QC. Lenawee Co MI, 7/26/20. Carpetweed family, Molluginaceae.
