striped maple, Acer pensylvanicum
Aha! A cure! Indians used striped maple for a variety of maladies, most often as a decoction for respiratory problems like the grippe. That turns out to be an old label for acute fever-causing respiratory diseases. Kind of like Covid? So if you get sick, try a cup of striped maple tea? Maybe after you call your doctor! More seriously, striped maple is a little different, getting to maybe 30 feet tall. It is sequentially hermaphroditic, changing sexes as it ages. Striped maple grows in CT, GA, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH(E), PA, RI(S), SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NS, ON, PE, and QC. Emmet Co MI, 5/27/12. Soapberry family, Sapindaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
