orchard grass, Dactylis glomeratus
Orchard grass is one of the most common causes of hayfever. Too bad it's so useful. Orchard grass has the highest sugar content of any northern species. It's commonly planted for fodder. The alternative name catgrass is because cats and dogs prefer it when they feel the need to graze. Thanks to agriculture, this annoying pollen is now available pretty much anywhere. With us it occurs in every state and province except LB, NT, NU, and YT, and on GL and SPM. And yes, I know LB isn't a separate province, but it is often mentioned separately when the ranges of Canadian plants are shown. Lenawee Co MI, 6/7/12. Grass family, Poaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
