Virginia dayflower, Commelina virginica

Virginia dayflower is a bit different than most dayflowers. Many have two blue petals and a smaller white one. Most do not grow in wet areas. And most are not perennial. Virginia is also often food for leaf beetles. You can see the work of one of those clever little guys here, just to the right of the flower. Mostly they graze parallel to veins, so they don't have to eat the tough parts. Conveniently, that is also healthier for the plant. Other leaf beetles on other species are much more destructive.
