roughleaf ricegrass, Oryzopsis asperifolia
Roughleaf ricegrass seems like it shouldn't grow like it does. This one was under cedars where it couldn't have gotten much sunlight. And it blooms quite early for a grass, although maybe not up north where this one was. All in all, it makes it fun to see even if you were there looking for rare petals. Roughleaf grows in woodlands in CO, CT, IA, ID, IL, IN(E), MA, MD(T), ME, MI, MN, ND, NH, NJ(E), NM, NY, OH(E), PA, RI, SD, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, and SK. Mackinac Co MI, 5/27/17. Grass family, Poaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
