lowbush blueberry, Vaccinium angustifolium
Ever been to Mt. Greylock, Massuchuseet's highest peak? If you're there at the right time, be sure to stop at the Pope's Nose. That's a shoulder of the mountain with a good view, and great blueberry picking. Lowbush blueberries are a favorite of the Abnaki, Algonquin, Chippewa, Iroquois, Menominee, Ojibwa, and European immigrant tribes. Lots of large sweet fruit, particularly if you maintain their habitat with periodic burns. In more marginal habitat, these roots can lay dormant up to 100 years before sprouting in a good year. Lowbush blueberries can be found in CT, DE, IA(T), IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, LB, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM. Wayne Co MI, 9/9/14. Heath family, Ericaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
