Is this the vanguard of another invasion? This image was from a weedy area at a flea market in Polk Co FL. Shineseed is a Caribbean and Central American native that has only been collected in Broward Co. Now we see it a couple of hundred miles farther north. It is a sprawling little plant, creeping up the peninsula. Will the invasion take hold, or will the Winter Haven fleamarket be the shineseed plain of Marathon? It's not well equiped to be a warrior, with its tiny flowers and seeds, and no apparent weapons even if it is in the nettle family (Urticaceae).
