tawny cottongrass, Eriophorum virginicum
Cottongrasses are noticed more when they produce their fluffy seeds. Here's a shot of tawny cottongrass in bloom. This is a plant of bogs and other acid or basic wetlands in CT, DE, GA, IA, IL(E), IN, KY(E), MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN(T), VA, VT, WI, WV, BC, LB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM. Pendleton Co WV, 7/16/15. Sedge family, Cyperaceae.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
