Appalachian joe-pye-weed, Eutrochium steelei
Appachian has the smallest range among the joe-pye-weeds. It only grows in the mountainous regions of KY(E), NC, TN, and VA. It looks much like the other Joes, but only has three to four leaves at each of the nodes on the stem. One website mentions that the plant in their images is dusty. It was along a dirt road. Fortunately, here you see a clean plant from along a paved route in Bell County, KY, 7/15/15. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
