yankeeweed, Eupatorium compositifolium
Three days ago we took a look at Appalachian joe-pye-weed, Eutrochium steelei. If you compare the flowers of yankeeweed to joe-pye, you will see they are very much alike. Not long ago, joe-pyes were Eupatoriums too. Then joe-pyes were separated to Eupatoriadelphus, and ultimately to the more efficient Eutrochium. The difference is opposite leaves with Eupatorium, and whorled leaves with joe-pyes. Yankeeweed grows mostly in sandy areas in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Dooly Co GA, 10/19/15. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
