purple beautyberry, Callicarpa dichotoma
One site says this is the most beautiful of the beautyberries. Purple beautyberry is certainly a good one, and is widely available to gardeners. It is a compact shrub that only gets a few feet tall. These provide colorful flowers, striking bunches of purple berries, and great birdfood. No doubt thanks to those birds, this east Asian native is now wild in DE, NC, SC, TN, and VA. Beal Gardens, MSU, 7/26/12. Vervain family, Verbenaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
