European dewberry, Rubus caesius
European dewberry is actually Eurasian. Its native range stretches from western Europe to western China. It is now occasional here, including an area along Bean Creek here in Lenawee County. It seems to like the top edges of the banks. From there its pale runners can cascade down. In their second year they will be covered with flowers and fruit. Quite picturesque. Hard to not welcome this immigrant. European dewberry has been reported from IA, KY, MI, NY, OH, PA, and ON. Washtenaw Co MI, 9/6/19. Rose family, Rosaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
