horned poppy, Glaucium flavum
These large colorful poppies are good in your flower garden, and also good for clearing your nasal passages. But the second use should only be with carefully processed medicine, or you will poison yourself. In their native Europe these would be called yellow horned poppies to differentiate them from the other species. Here we only have the one. In Europe these are pretty much restricted to salty shores. Here you might see them in other open areas where they venture from gardens in CA, CO, CT, DE, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NY, OK, OR, PA, RI, VA, WV, and ON. Beal Gardens, MSU, 6/24/12. Poppy family, Papaveraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
