seabeach evening-primrose, Oenothera humifusa
Seabeach evening-primrose grows almost exclusively in coastal sand. It is well adapted to that salt and sand. So well that it is as important to that habitat as the habitat is to the plant. Seabeach's roots and horizontal stems help stabilize coastal dunes. If they are disrupted they can root where they land, starting their work all over again. In a place like Florida, you might also find them in sandy inland areas like I did with this one. Seabeach evening-primrose grows in AL, DE, FL, LA, MD, MS, NC, NJ, PA, SC, and VA. Polk Co FL, 10/21/15. Willow-herb family, Onagraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
