softleaf sedge, Carex disperma
Another sedge! This one is softleaf. Or is it. Why worry? There are so many sedges. And the botanist that was with me called it something else. But he was from the Upper Peninsula, and that species just doesn't grow this far under the bridge. It was also growing in not quite the right habitat - close, but not quite. And finally, I've gotten sedges wrong before. Could just leave it out, but sedges deserve attention, and there aren't that many of them whose IDs don't make me nervous. Assuming this is softleaf sedge, it grows in AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, HI, ID, IL(E), IN(E), MA, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA(R), RI, SD, UT, VT, WA, WI, WY, across Canada, and on GL and SPM. Ives Fen Preserve, Lenawee Co MI, 5/14/13. Sedge family, Cyperaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
