canary grass, Phalaris canariensis
Canary grass is well known as a component of commercial bird seed. The seed is also occasionally used for human food, but the hulls have been irritating to our esophagi. A variety has newly been developed with softer hulls, so rush right out! Seems like the birdseed supply chain is working just great. Canary grass started out in the Canary Islands as well as around the Mediterranean. It has been reported from all states, all provinces except LB, and from SPM. Beal Gardens, MSU, 6/11/15. Grass family, Poaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
