Now that I know the Cherokee used the dried leaves for flavoring, they have to be tasted. These are tall plants, in exceptional cases eight or even ten feet tall. The largest leaves at the base are kind of like big sycamore leaves. The whole effect of large pale plants and unusual flowers made them a must for prairie plantings, even though they were already in the Preserve.
