big bluestem, Andropogon gerardii
Wherever big bluestem goes, there is prairie. It may be a field, large or small, or just a roadside. If you want to create a prairie, this may be the first species you look for. And if you're standing among it, there's no trouble seeing it. But you won't see far. It gets close to ten feet tall. Big bluestem grows in every state except CA, HI, ID, NV, OR, and WA, and in MB, ON, QC, and SK. Monroe Co MI, 8/22/16. Grassfamily, Poaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
