black highbush blueberry, Vaccinium fuscatum
Highbush? Indeed, these can stand over ten feet tall. These particular flowers were looking me right in the face and waving around in the wind and rain. And that's my excuse for a subpar image. Blueberries have long been a favorite. Back in grade school days we went camping, I met my first blueberries, and I got a TERRIBLE case of hives. Everywhere! Doc Jarret asked if I had eaten anything unusual, and I mentioned blueberries and birch bark. He blamed birch bark, but I knew better. I eat birch all the time. It was the blueberries that were new. Actually, I've eaten both ever since, and there must have been another suspect. Be careful what you nibble out there! Black highbush blueberries are lumped into V. corymbosum by many botanists. Either way, you can scarf them in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, and VT. Polk Co FL, 3/18/16. Heath family, Ericaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
