Indian milkvetch, Astragalus australis
Indian milkvetch? Go to an identification key for Astragalus and the first thing you will be asked is about the fruit. Fruit? I see flowers! What do they expect? Two trips to Colorado every time you find a milkvetch? I could really get on a rant here, but you get the idea. This might not be Indian milkvetch. I have no idea what the fruit might have looked like. The milkvetches produce scads of beautiful flowers. If you search Astragalus on the USDA website you get 692 entries. 692 different milkvertches? Lots of flowers and lots of puzzle frustration! If this is Indian milkvetch, you could eat the roots like they did. But you might want to wait for the fruit just to be sure. It would grow in AK, CO, IA, ID, MT, ND, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY, AB, BC, MB, NT, NU, ON, QC, SK, and YT. Summit Co CO, 6/17/13. Bean family, Fabaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
