Bukhara fleeceflower, Fallopia baldschuanica
Bukhara fleeceflower is a twining vine, more popular traditionally than currently for garden trellises. I find the name Bukhara curious. This plant originated in that general area of the world, but why focus on the fifth largest city in Uzbekistan? It is located on the silk road. Did Marco or one of the many other travelers through that area bring it from there to Europe? It was his writing that brought him to our attention, and separated him from the others. Perhaps he mentioned it? Anyway, some fanciful thoughts for a fanciful-looking flower. Plants with papillate flower stems are sometimes separated as F. aubertii. Either way this has been reported from CA, CO, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NM, NY, OR, PA, UT, VA, and WA. Cultivated, Leelanau Co MI, 9/13/12. Knotweed family, Polygonaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
