shiny blueberry, Vaccinium myrsinites
Is shiny blueberry the largest of its kind? Actually, the berries are relatively small. But the bush! One bush can cover an area two thirds of a mile across! These spread by their roots, and they really like fire. Fire that kills off other shrubs just enables shiny blueberry to send up more shoots, and take over more territory. They're called shiny not for the fruit, but for their coriaceous persistent leaves. Shiny blueberry grows in AL, FL, GA, and SC. Flagler Co FL, 1/28/13. Heath family, Ericaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
