Piedmont blacksenna, Seymeria pectinata
The last Seymeria we looked at (S. cassioides) was more of a black-eyed Sue. Those have a dark patch in the middle. With Piedmont blacksenna we get freckles. Either way, they attract plenty of pollinators. Dark eyes, freckles, what's not to like. We all like a cute batch of freckles. Except sometimes I guess for the ladies that have got them. And maybe excepting this cutie's neighbors. Things take a little darker turn when you find out that that Seymeria will grab you by your roots a steal your nutrients. This semiparasite grows in damp areas in AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, and SC. Wakulla Co FL, 10/19/15. Broomrape family, Orobanchaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
