beaked cornsalad, Valerianella radiata
Beaked cornsalad is a weak looking little plant. It gets at most two feet tall, and can often look a little droopy and unhappy. So if it's so soft, why not eat it? Cornsalads have been a green vegetable back through our history. There are many species both here and in the old world. They may be called cornsalad because they are weedy in wheat fields? This one is ours, growing in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Hocking Co OH, 5/16/13. Valerian family, Valerianaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
