umber pussytoes, Antennaria umbrinella
The reference here is pretty clear. This genus is a tribe of cute little fuzzies. But what about umber. I really don't see that part of it. I guess after a while, with so many plants to name, you grasp at any straw. Umber pussytoes turns out to be sort of the Old Deuteronomy of this tribe. Or maybe Jellylorum, since most of the pussytoes we see are female. Now that they can chemically parse the genetics of us all, they've figured out that this species is an ancestor of a whole line of pussytoes. Umber pussytoes grows in CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY, AB, BC, and SK. Summit Co CO, 6/16/13. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
