giant white fawnlily, Erythronium oregonum

Saw a note the other day that Erythronium is blooming in southern Ohio. I suspect the same is true in the west coast range of this species. Giant or Oregon fawnlily is perhaps the most popular of our native Erythronium among gardeners. Giant is of course relative, but these do get up to 16 inches tall. The roots were eaten by Native Americans, including bears. Or maybe the people ate them first and then . . . oh, well, never mind.
