giant white fawnlily, Erythronium oregonum
Saw a note the other day that Erythronium is blooming in southern Ohio. I suspect the same is true in the west coast range of this species. Giant or Oregon fawnlily is perhaps the most popular of our native Erythronium among gardeners. Giant is of course relative, but these do get up to 16 inches tall. The roots were eaten by Native Americans, including bears. Or maybe the people ate them first and then . . . oh, well, never mind. In any case they are native to the coastal forests in CA, OR, WA, and BC. Edgewood Gardens, Chester Co PA, 4/21/21. Lily family, Liliaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
