elliptical rushfoil, Croton michauxii
Before today crotons were just crotons. This would be Michaux' croton. But research quickly erased my ignorance. For many, crotons are rushfoils! I'm not sure where that idea comes from.
Most do not have leaves as narrow as rushes. Some are used as house plants, so maybe rushfoil is a more sellable name? Various rushfoils have leaves that are often pale, spotted, or colored and are probably of more interest than the small flowers. In any case, be a little careful with them. They're toxic. Elliptical rushfoil grows in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Taylor Co FL, 7/7/18.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
