garden pink, Dianthus plumarius

Brockway Mountain is one of Michigan's more scenic hills. This mountain is all of 728 feet, but you can see Isle Royal from there. Brockway is located on the Keweenaw and was once a local park. Now you can see some very rare plants, with a garnish of garden escapes from those days as a park. One of those is garden pink, in a range of shades from pink to white. Believed to have started in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, garden pink has now found homes around the world. Between this and its relatives, there are about 27,000 registered cultivars. Here specimens have been collected in AL, CA, CT, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, NC, ND, NH, NY, OH, PA, SC, VA, VT, WI, AB, BC, MB, NS, ON, QC, and YT. Keweenaw Co MI, 7/12/14.
