water cowbane, Oxypolis filiformis
If you get adopted, there will probably be a one year wait before it's final. During that time you get to try out your new name. It seems water cowbane may be in such a trial period. Some sources now call this Tiedemannia filiformis. Anyhow, this cowbane is a good example of a southern phenomenon. Plants in the tropics don't need to worry much about seasons. It's not unusual to see fruit and flower all at once. Here we have a nice effect of developing red seeds and white flowers. Red and white fireworks. Too bad I didn't do a better job adapting for the contrast. Water cowbane grows in wetlands in AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, and TX. Big Cypress Preserve, Collier Co FL, 1/25/13. Celery family, Apiaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
