scorpion's tail, Heliotropium angiospermum
What better example of a scorpioid flower style than scorpion's tail? Scorpioid flower spikes bloom from the bottom up, and uncurl as they go. This method of flowering occurs in several different familes of plants. One suspects the advantage is that it helps to protect the developing buds. Scorpion's tail was used by people of the West Indies in treatments for skin problems and in eyewash. Scorpion's tail is native in FL and TX. Lee Co FL, 1/24/13. Borage family, Boraginaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
