eastern hawthorn, Crataegus macrosperma
Bigfruit, fanleaf, largeseed or eastern hawthorn or thornapple. There is a bewildering array of common and scientific names for this and other Crataegus. Crataegus is about the only label there that we all agree on. There was a time when we agreed that the fruit was edible, but now we don't even need to do that. Fortunately we can also agree to enjoy the abundant flowers, the colorful fruit, the birds they attract, and that we need to avoid the thorns. Depending on how this species is circumscribed, it may be seen in AL, AR, CT, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, and QC. Monongalia Co WV, 4/22/21. Rose family, Rosaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
