gray willow, Salix cinerea
If you pass this gray willow your impression will be of a particularly nice pussy willow. The flower spikes are a little larger than others. If you're a pollinator, you won't pass by. Gray willow is one of the best nectar plants around. A European native, it sometimes still uses its old English name of sallow. Gray sallow now grows in AL, CT, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, UT, VA, WI, WV, NS, and ON. Cultivated, Lenawee Co MI, 4/21/14. Willow family, Salicaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
