Texas Indian paintbrush, Castilleja indivisa
Texas paintbrush is almost as famous as bluebonnets. They bloom together, and often grow together. The paintbrush is a terrific counterpoint for the blue bonnets. Back a while I had a question about transplanting paintbrush to a garden. The answer was that transplanting almost always failed because paintbrush is partly parasitic, and any disruption for the roots is a problem. A better answer would have been that seeding is best. And Texas paintbrush seeds are available. Of course you still need the grass plants that paintbrush will connect to. Texas paintbrush is native to AR, LA, OK, and TX, and has escaped in AL and FL. Hardin Co TX, 4/16/22. Broomrape family, Orobanchaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
