tansy-aster, Machaeranthera tanacetifolia
Decades ago someone in the Flora of North America office told me they wouldn't be done in my lifetime. Since then I have anxiously waited for new volumes, not sure if it's better to win or lose that contest. But now I realize I was always the winner, and I will definitely go first. They will never finish! Machaeranthera led to that revelation today. As circumscribed in FNA by Morgan and Hartman, there are two species. Other treatments include many more. FNA mentions 59 others. Ongoing research and discoveries will always be changing the nomenclature of our flora. FNA is now online, and they can change their information with each new discovery. Didn't see that coming in the 1970s! This tansy-aster grows in AZ, CA, CO, IL, KS, MT, NE, NM, NV, NY, OK, SD, TX, UT, WY, and AB. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Travis Co TX, 4/17/22. Aster family, Asteraceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
