golden chain tree, Laburnum anagyroides
Should that be golden rain tree? Nope, there are both. Both are cultivated as ornamentals, and both are happiest in southern climes, but can be grown at least as far north as Michigan. Golden chain tree is from the Mediterranean area, as are so many of our imports. It turns out circum-Mediterranean is a concept of ethnic and botanic studies that is particularly rich in human/plant interactions. Golden rain tree is grown ornamentally and for its very hard wood. The wood has been used as a substitute for ebony. Golden chain tree has escaped to CA, MA, UT, WA, and BC. Beal Garden MSU, 5/28/19. Bean family, Fabaceae.

Hi Denise
Just thinking it's almost time to come look for Platanthera flava. Bob
Hi Bob:
I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
