white spruce, Picea glauca

White spruce is a dominant and commercially important tree in Canada and Alaska. For the rest of us, it is a common landscape and Christmas tree. Black Hills spruce is one of many varieties. On this lot there are three, each different. The oldest seems to be a pretty typical white spruce. On the other side is a paler variety that was the box store version of blue spruce. The third arrived in a pot for Christmas, and is still quite small. It is probably the Black Hills version. White spruce grows in AK, CT, ID, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MT, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SD, VT, WI, WY, all of Canada, and on SPM. Hidden Lake Gardens, Lenawee Co MI, 5/3/15. Pine family, Pinaceae.
