Carolina bristlemallow, Modiola caroliniana
Carolina bristlemallow now grows around the world in tropical or subtropical places. Some believe it is of South American origin, but it is more often considered to be native as far north as the US. The Houma people used an infusion of this for tonsillitis, sore throat, and diphtheria. Carolina bristlemallow grows in AL, AR, AZ, CA, DE, FL, GA, HI, KY, LA, MA, MD, MS, NC, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Lafourche Parish LA, which would have been within the nation of the Houma people; 4/15/22. Mallow family, Malvaceae.

I found it on Eber Rd, about 1.5 mi S. of Kitty Todd Preserve 1/4 mi from Metroparks land. I’m guessing it came in on the RR. (NwOhio)
Apparently so, but not on all plants. The brown only shows a little in this image.
Regarding umber pussytoes, one reference calls it brown-brackted pussytoes. Are it's bracts browner than other pussytoes?
