Carolina bristlemallow, Modiola caroliniana

Carolina bristlemallow now grows around the world in tropical or subtropical places. Some believe it is of South American origin, but it is more often considered to be native as far north as the US. The Houma people used an infusion of this for tonsillitis, sore throat, and diphtheria. Carolina bristlemallow grows in AL, AR, AZ, CA, DE, FL, GA, HI, KY, LA, MA, MD, MS, NC, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, and VA.
