Hackberry may be ho-hum in some respects but I find the ridged bark interesting. It also hosts the Hackberry Emperor caterpillar.

ONAPA Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves just shared a page of yours that brought me here. I hope to visit again as this looks quite interesting and helpful.

Wafer Ash also has a strong sweet fragrance when it is in bloom. Dogwood does not. The main reason for mine is to attract Giant Swallowtails.

I agree the smell of anise root is wonderful. I love licorice (I'm not sure this plant is the source of the flavor?) But over many years we have so much of this, especially in previously disturbed areas, old farm fields/pastures. The seeds are able to
imbed themselves in my dog's furry coat if I am not attentive. It is a seed, like many others, I have learned, that knows how to plant itself. So it seems like there is too much of it.

Typical. I've been in your car when you have risked life and limb to get a roadside picture.

Just found your website based upon your Christmas card note to my mom. I also take photos of flowers. I will enjoy viewing your photos.

You are very generous in sharing so much info about an understanding that is very simple, yet, may be hard to grasp for a very tired mind, nice work!

Have you seen the native buckthorn (R. alniflolia) at Ives Fen too? I'd like to see it so we can begin to look for it.
